New Service Spotlight: Brazilian Lymphatic Massage Therapy

New Service Spotlight: Brazilian Lymphatic Massage Therapy

Are you feeling sluggish, bloated, or heavy? We often focus on our muscles and joints, but there is an entire system working behind the scenes to keep us healthy: the lymphatic system.

I am thrilled to announce that I am now offering Brazilian Lymphatic Massage Therapy. While traditional lymphatic drainage has long been used in clinical settings, the Brazilian method brings a dynamic, results-driven approach that balances deep therapeutic benefits with some potential visible results.

What is Brazilian Lymphatic Massage?

Think of your lymphatic system as the body’s primary drainage and elimination network. Unlike your heart, which pumps blood automatically, the lymphatic system has no central pump. It relies on movement, breathing, and manual stimulation to keep fluid flowing.

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is a hybrid approach. It respects the foundational principles of traditional Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) but incorporates faster, more rhythmic movements and varied pressure. While traditional MLD is extremely light and slow, the Brazilian method is more dynamic, helping to:

  • Clear metabolic waste.

  • Reduce visible bloating and puffiness.

  • Move stagnant fluid.

  • Regulate the nervous system for deep relaxation.

How It Works: The Science of the "Flow"

During a session, I follow a specific physiological progression to ensure your body can process fluid efficiently:

  1. Clear Before We Move: I start by "opening" the main drainage hubs (the lymph nodes in your neck, armpits, and abdomen).

  2. Left-Side First: Because the majority of your body’s lymph drains into the left side of the bloodstream, we prioritize clearing this pathway first.

  3. Proximal to Distal: We clear the areas closest to the trunk of the body before moving toward the limbs. This ensures that when we move fluid from your ankles or wrists, the "pipes" are already open and ready to receive it.

  4. Rhythm and Pressure: Using a specific "pumping" rhythm, I guide lymph toward the drainage points without using excessive pressure that could collapse the delicate vessels.

Who is it For?

This service is ideal for those looking to manage inflammation and support their body’s natural rhythm. It is particularly beneficial for:

  • Inflammatory Conditions: Helping manage symptoms of Endometriosis and PCOS.

  • Acute Injuries: Reducing swelling at spots of injury causing stiffness and delayed rehabilitation. (see photo to right)

  • Postpartum Recovery: Helping the body rebalance fluid after pregnancy.

  • General Wellness: Boosting the immune system and reducing that "heavy" feeling in the limbs.

  • Existing Clients: While I do not take on new post-op cosmetic surgery cases, I provide this specialized care for my current established clients as part of their ongoing treatment plan.

What to Expect During & After Your Session

Before You Arrive:

  • Hydrate: Water is essential for moving lymph.

  • Fast Briefly: Avoid eating a heavy meal 1 hour prior to treatment.

  • Avoid Alcohol: Please refrain from alcohol 24–48 hours before (and after!) your session.

During the Session:

Expect a treatment that feels both intentional and invigorating. You may feel a shift into a "parasympathetic" state, that deep "rest and digest" mode where real healing happens.

After the Session:

The most common "side effect" is increased urination, which is a great sign! It means your body is successfully processing and eliminating the excess fluid we moved. Most clients report feeling "light," energized, and visibly less bloated.

Safety & Contraindications

As a Registered Massage Therapist, your safety is my priority. Because this treatment moves fluid back into the circulatory system, it is contraindicated (not recommended) for those with:

  • Active Infections or Fever: We don't want to spread infection through the system.

  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Risk of dislodging a blood clot.

  • Congestive Heart Failure or Severe Kidney/Liver Disease: These organs may be overwhelmed by the increased fluid volume.

  • Active Cancer: Unless you have specific clearance from your medical provider.
