RMTACT and HST
Help Massage Therapy be HST exempt
With 2019 marking 100 years of Registered Massage Therapy in Ontario and P.E.I. becoming the 5th province to come registered, we, RMTs, are able to start the process of becoming HST exempt. The Registered Massage Therapy Associate of Ontario (RMTAO) has joined with other MT associations from across Canada to form the RMTACT. This coalition’s priority is to advocate to the federal government on behalf of RMT’s and spread awareness of what non-taxable health care means. According to the RMTACT site:
“Historically, health care services rendered by registered health practitioners specified in a schedule of the federal Excise Tax Act are non-taxable health services. Regulated health professions with HST/GST exemption include chiropractic services, chiropody services, naturopathic services, psychology services, optometric services and physiotherapy services.” rmtact.ca
RMT’s currently work closely with other allied healthcare professionals to ensure our clientele receives optimal care. Granting RMT’s to be included on the non-taxable health services schedule will help the public view Registered Massage Therapy as an equal treatment option to other rehabilitative services. As well as, allow for Massage Therapy to be more accessible for anyone who needs it.
